Remembrance Day – City of Vaughan (virtual event)

November 1, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

To continue to protect the health and safety of citizens and staff, the City’s annual Remembrance event will take place virtually. Citizens are invited to participate from the comfort of home while paying tribute to those who risked and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of others.

Virtual Remembrance Event

Join Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council at the City of Vaughan’s 2021 Remembrance event on Monday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. available at vaughan.ca/live.

Vaughan’s Forgotten Heroes

This year’s City-led virtual exhibit, “Vaughan’s Forgotten Heroes” will be hosted by the Office of the City Clerk’s Archives and Records Management Services Unit and will offer all who view it a deeper connection between past and present by showcasing deeply personal war artifacts, such as letters and photographs. Residents from Vaughan are also featured within the exhibit, including Lawrence Two Axe and the Maple Knit-Wit Club. Through this exhibit, participants will gain an understanding of the wartime experiences of historically marginalized individuals and groups.

Stories of Remembrance

Citizens are also invited to contribute to a community-driven virtual exhibit titled, “Stories of Remembrance.” Citizens can share their thoughts of remembrance via email to archives@vaughan.ca, where their poems, stories, photos and memories will be uploaded to the City’s Flickr account and shared with visitors.

Both virtual exhibits will be available starting Monday, Nov. 1 with submissions being collected for the “Stories of Remembrance” exhibit until Friday, Nov. 26.
